My dear Dr. Dvořák
I was very delighted to receive your English letter this morning and hope it is only the first of very very many I shall have the pleasure of receiving from you.
I was not so very much surprised to find you writing English because I could tell from the few words you said when you were here last, and from your understanding so much that was said by others, that you had already studied hard: and then you certainly have the power of learning a language much quicker than most people.
I am very glad that you have such good feelings towards England and can assure that they are earnestly returned by a very large number of English people among whom I hope you will always count me as one of the first ready to do everything possible to help you in every way.
With regard to the “Wedding Gown” I shall be very glad to receive some if not all of the pianoforte score as soon as possible as the people at Birmingham are already asking for something to begin their rehearsals and we have a great deal to do after we receive your M[anu]S[cript]. Gounod certainly demanded an enormous sum for his work but we shall always try to keep enough to pay properly for the great works we expect to receive from you.
I am very glad you are pleased with Mackenzie’s oratorio: it is a very great success here: I hope you will know the composer some day. I am sure you will like him very much: he is very anxious to meet you.
With kindest regards to you and all your family who I hope to have the pleasure of knowing some day. I am your most sincerely
Alfred H Littleton
