Novello, Ewer and Co. Dvořák Antonín
Basic information
Letter
My dear Friend I regret quite as much as you can that it seems impossible for us to agree about the terms for your Requiem. The price we have offered is a high one I think and to that you have to add the amount you will receive from the Birmingham Committee. You seem to have forgotten that the work is only to take 1 ½ horns in performance and therefore only makes [?] performance and that a Requiem cannot in any case be performed frequently. You have also forgotten the very large amount of money we have lost over Ludmila and from other works. You will have received a letter from the Chairman of the Birmingham Committee and you will no doubt now correspond with him about conducting the first performance. I shall send off your M[anu]S[cript] by post tomorrow. Yours very sincerely Alfred H Littleton Would you like to sell us the Requiem for England + colonies only?
