Description:
Antonín Dvořák travelled with his wife Anna to a music festival in Leeds for the premiere of the oratorio Svatá Ludmila [Saint Ludmila], which Dvořák himself conducted on 15 April 1886, to great acclaim. Dvořák is wearing a dark suit, dark tie and bowler hat. Anna has a dark dress and button-up jacket and a dark hat. They are pictured outdoors, with bushes around and behind them.

On the reverse, in pen: “Dvořák mit seiner Frau in Leeds in England in J. 1886”. On the reverse, in pencil (in Czech): “Bachtík no. 30”.
Note:
Based on a photograph by Alfred Littleton. The photographic studio at 49 Wenceslas Square was run around the year 1876 by Žák & Rachota, subsequently by Ignác Rachota alone, and was taken over in 1886 by Josef Šmejkal.
