Detailed information
Description:
Portrait, headshot, half profile. Dark suit, broad tie with three pins. It is presented in an oval mount, decorated with angels (depicted as holding the photograph) and a painted floral background. Below the photograph there is a painted decorative scroll with the inscription “To the Esteemed Maestro Antonín Dvořák”. The text continues on a painted ribbon below: "Moravan choral society in Kroměříž", and on two crests at the bottom "11 April", "year 1886".
Note:
This congratulatory photo collage was created to mark the occasion on which Dvořák travelled to Kroměříž to conduct two music society performances of his Stabat Mater there, at which his wife sang the alto solo. Wilhelm Sonntag was a distinguished photographer in Kroměříž. In 1886, the Archbishop of Olomouc, Friedrich Egon von Fürstenberg, appointed him as his official photographer, which is why the card is printed in gold with the coat of arms of the archbishopric, along with a number of medals.
