Dear and honoured Master and friend!

Your letter, just received, has caused us great disappointment

From your former one we had concluded that you would certainly be able to grace one of our concerts with your presence.

The programmes and dates have now been so arranged that we have relied upon you to be with us on the 21 June and I sincerely hope that in passing through London on your way to Prague you will still be able to do so. We have of course not expected that you would come expressly, but, if it can be so arranged, the Directors home all along intended asking you to accept the small sum of £25 as a little return for your expenses. Pray give this matter your early consideration, as we shall not like to perform your new symphony without you in person, should your not be able to come we would prefer doing an older symphony of yours.
