With regard to song the “Wild Duck”, it has much character, and would be most interesting to musicians. It is, however, hardly suitable for popular purposes, and a song such as the “Princess of Thule” would be far better for making your music widely known among the people. If agreeable to yourself, I should be pleased if you would compose music to the words of [the] song “Princess of Thule”, sent herewith; in exchange for the “Wild Duck”. I await your kind reply before returning [the] M[anu]s[cript] of the “Wild Duck”. I beg to inform you that the biographical matter you were so good as to mention in your last letter has not been received yet by me. Might I ask you to see if [the] same has been duly posted.
