My dear friend Simrock I beg to ask a question. Would you be willing to give to my friend Joh[annes] Buchtele the Romanze op.11. (F minor) for a moderate prize[!]¹ ? This gentleman - now the Conzertmeister of the Filharmonic Society of Berlin, would like to play my Romance at one of the Fil[harmonic] concerts (under the direction of Mr Rebíček) I know him very well. He is a fine violin player and I had the pleasure nearly every Sunday to play with him.

Besides this he is a poor man and has not the means to spend too much money for musical scores, etc. Should this gentleman come to you, please kindly receive him I told him, he may come between 11-12 o’clock to see you at your office?

This morning I got a letter from Suk. Last Sunday there was a great sensation in the Filh[armonic] concerts of Amsterdam.

The whole concert was dedicated to my compositions only

1 “In der Natur” (Ouverture)

2 Violon concert (Hoffman)

3 “New World Symfonie”

Suk, Nedbal Wihan speaks in the highest terms of the performance under the direction of Mr. Mendelberg.
