Dear Sir
I am a young musician, and have spent all my life at music and wish to advance myself in the “Divine Art”. I have already written a number of pieces to[!]1, but wish to improve myself.
Would you, if I came to Prague, give me some lessons in composition? If so it would be the proudest time of my life to sit at the feet of such a great master. If so, + on what terms, I shall be glad to send you some of my compositions.
I may say I had some prior lessons with Hans van Bülow before he died.
My sister is president of a Ladies club here at which the music of the great composers are performed monthly. In about two months, an afternoon is the [?] Dr. Dvořák’s music and she, and the whole Club, would esteem it a great honor, to [present?] a little scrap of your writing on the enclosed [?] as a memorial. A bar or two of the “Songs” from the “New World” Symphony” would be greatly prized.
Apologizing for troubling you and hoping for a favourable answer.
Believe me
With best compliments
Sincerely yours,
J.E.R. Senior
