New York Jan 21th 1893 Dr. Antonin Dvorak My dear Sir ; - I am extremely sorry that through a misunderstanding, I was deprived of the pleasure of seeing you yesterday. Mr. Huneker said in his note that I was to go to the Conservatory “on Friday afternoon between 4 + 5 o’clock”. A professional engagement kept me at my room in [the] Steinway building until 4:30 o’clock at which hour I immediately went to the Conservatory where I arrived at 4:40 o’clock. I understood from the man who opened the door that you had gone to the Conservatory expressly to see me. I appreciate and thank you for your kindness in doing this and regret all the more my loss, but hope that before long I may have another opportunity of paying my respects to you when, in case a definite hour is appointed, you may rely on my being punctual to the minute.
